Kate Newman, LMSW (she/her)
Psychotherapist
We all carry stories about who we are, why we struggle, and what our lives should look like. I work with teens, adults, and families to re-examine these stories in pursuit of individual and collective healing. Together, we can make sense of your existing patterns, recognize what's ready to be set down, and build confidence in your capacity for meaningful change. As a queer therapist, I foster an affirming space that centers your lived experience, identities, and agency throughout the process.
My practice is grounded in narrative therapy and liberation psychology. Through this lens, I help you disentangle your sense of self from your struggles—while getting curious about how familial, cultural, and societal forces protect or limit your well-being. I also integrate techniques from other modalities, such as mindfulness, somatic interventions, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Sessions are collaborative: We’ll work toward meaningful change on your terms and build on your existing strengths with supportive tools, resources, and relationships.
I specialize in supporting teens and their families on issues related to identity and self-esteem, emotional regulation, academic and social pressures, harmful behaviors, and relationship conflict. My approach recognizes the unique challenges teens face in building a sense of self within the context of modern stressors, like social media, AI, and climate change. In addition to my clinical training, I’ve spent the last five years creating educational resources and workshops at a leading parenting platform. I’ve witnessed how much changes for young people when the adults around them can respond from a place of curiosity and connection—not panic—and I believe in equipping families with the skills to make that possible.
I’m available to meet with clients virtually for online video sessions.
