Small Pauses to Help Keep You Present & Grounded

Many of us fall into the thinking trap that taking care of ourselves requires a lot of time, energy and perfect conditions. But more often than not, mindfulness practices can live in small moments, woven within our daily routines.

Throughout the day, you may find there are tiny moments where you can gently come back to yourself through pauses for awareness and grounding.

These small check-ins can look like:

  • Taking one slower breath before opening your next email

  • Noticing your feet on the ground while standing in line

  • Focussing on what you see and hear around you while walking from one place to another

  • Pausing to unclench your jaw or drop your shoulders

  • Stepping outside and feeling the the fresh air on your skin

These practices can help you move out of a place of constant urgency or autopilot to feeling more present and embodied. They create space between feeling and reacting, building a steady, internal awareness you can return to when things feel overwhelming.

Try choosing one part of your day (morning, commute, lunch, bedtime) to anchor a brief check-in and pair a grounding moment with something you already do each day, like washing your hands, commuting to work or making coffee.

The goal isn’t to do more, but to create just enough space to slow down and notice what’s already there.
